Racers win battle of unbeatens
MURRAY, Ky. --Kelvin Brown scored 20 points and Cuthbert Victor added 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead Murray State University to a 68-64 win over Southern Illinois Wednesday night.
Antione Welchel finished with 11 points for the Racers (8-0).
Stetson Hairston scored 14 to lead the Salukis (6-1). Darren Brooks had 12, and Jamaal Tatus and LaMar Owen finished with 10 apiece.
Southern Illinois led 38-25 at halftime, but Murray outscored the Salukis 43-26 in the second half.
SIU's biggest lead was at 44-29 with 16:53 left on a layup by Hairston. The Racers then pulled within eight points before scoring 10 straight to go ahead 54-52.
The Racers were able to put Southern Illinois away by hitting 10 of 12 free throws during the final six minutes and were 17-of-23 for the game.
