Wright was drafted by the Celtics
BOSTON -- Former Boston University player and Boston Celtics draft pick Steve Wright died Monday due to complications from cancer, school officials said. He was 45.
Wright graduated in 1980 as the program's first three-time MVP, and still ranks fourth in school history with 1,641 points.
As a senior in 1979-80, Wright averaged 19.8 points and 6.0 rebounds as the Terriers finished 21-9 and earned a berth in the NIT, their first postseason bid in 21 years.
Wright was taken in the eighth round of the 1980 NBA draft by the Celtics. He was inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame in 1988.
