Team also losing Bogut to NBA

4/13/2005 - Utah Utes

SALT LAKE CITY -- Forwards Justin Hawkins and Jake Schmidt, and guard Jermaine Calvin are leaving the Utah Utes basketball team.

Hawkins, who started 27 games last season, was honorable mention
all-Mountain West this season after averaging 8.5 points and 4.2
rebounds. As a freshman, he played in all 32 games, starting three,
and averaged 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds.

Calvin and Schmidt were reserves last season.

Coach Ray Giacoletti refused to talk at length Tuesday about any
of the departures or address reports that Hawkins disagreed with
the coaching staff. None of the three players were recruited by
Giacoletti, who is beginning his second year at Utah after leading
the Utes to a 29-6 record.

Utah also has lost AP Player of the Year Andrew Bogut, who is
leaving early for the NBA, and senior guard Marc Jackson.
