Peete to transfer to New Mexico State University
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A former Kansas State guard has signed a letter of intent to transfer to New Mexico State University next fall.
Fred Peete, a sophomore who started all 29 games this season for the Wildcats, joins former Utah forward Justin Hawkins as the first two recruits to sign with the Aggies since coach Reggie Theus took over in March. Both will sit out next season because of NCAA transfer rules.
Peete first visited NMSU in 2004.
"Things didn't work out that time and I though that [Kansas State] was the best situation for me at the time," Peete said Wednesday. "But they [Kansas State] aren't headed in the direction I want and I really like the things I see with Coach Theus and the program."
Peete's transfer paperwork has yet to arrive at NMSU. The university is prohibited from discussing specific prospective recruits until signed paperwork is in hand.
Of the spring recruiting period, Theus did say: "Things are going real good right now."
Peete transferred to Kansas State after a year at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. He averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 assists per game last season.
