BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern University Athletic Council announced Tuesday that it has reached a preliminary settlement with recently ousted basketball coach Michael Grant.
Details of the settlement weren't made available, but Southern Chancellor Edward Jackson said documents detailing the agreement would be made public Monday.
Grant was fired and named assistant athletic director April 27. That post -- and the second year of Grant's three-year contract -- end Sunday.
Grant's attorneys could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
Jackson's termination letter to Grant said he violated his duty to promote Southern when he spoke to reporters while interviewing in early April as one of three finalists for a vacancy at Youngstown State.
The school has named Rob Spivery, who coached Alabama State, to succeed Grant, who was 26-31 in two seasons.
