Two Aggies declared academically ineligible
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A pair of New Mexico State guards have been declared academically ineligible and will lose their scholarships, coach Reggie Theus says.
Theus said late Monday he was surprised and disappointed over the loss of Mike Mitchell and Byron Davis.
"This isn't a basketball issue right now. It's a life issue," Theus said. "If I have anything to do with it, they will be here getting their education in the fall," but without an athletic scholarship.
Aggie players have a responsibility to get their grades in order and remain eligible, Theus said.
Mitchell is a 6-foot junior from San Antonio, Texas, and Davis is a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Detroit.
