Cal forward Kately withdraws from school
BERKELEY, Calif. -- California junior forward Marquise Kately has withdrawn from school, though the two-year starter might return in January.
Kately, who averaged 10.5 points as a freshman, scored 9.3 points per game last season, but apparently fell out of favor with coach Ben Braun late in the season. With the Golden Bears' additions of injured forward Leon Powe and Kansas transfer Omar Wilkes this fall, Kately wasn't expected to start.
Kately's withdrawal wasn't related to academics, Braun said in a statement. The forward is eligible to re-enroll for the spring semester in January.
