Penn St. guard Morrissey out 4-6 months
Penn State Nittany Lions: Penn State sophomore guard Danny Morrissey dislocated his left knee and is expected to miss four to six months.
Morrissey will likely undergo surgery in the next week and is expected to redshirt this season, the school said in a statement Sunday.
The shooting guard was injured during practice on Friday. He was attended to by team officials for several minutes after writhing on the floor in pain and had to be helped back to the bench.
"Obviously it's a big loss for our team," coach Ed DeChellis said. "Danny is one of our top shooters and top competitors and a team leader on the floor."
Morrissey had a similar injury to his right leg during his freshman year of high school. He started 10 games as a freshman last season when Penn State went 7-23 and averaged 7.7 points while leading the team with 53 3-pointers.
The Nittany Lions open the season on Nov. 19 against Cornell.
Boston College Eagles: Despite being omitted from team's media guide, coach Al Skinner remains guardedly optimistic that Sean Williams would be reinstated to the squad, The Boston Globe reported.
Williams, who was suspended from the team and school in May after his arrest by campus police for marijuana possession, had been listed on BC's roster during the offseason.
"I guess he's not officially in school right now, so we decided to leave him off the roster and out of the media guide until he's officially back in [school]," Skinner told the paper. "There haven't been any further discussions, because this is just not the time for it."
Skinner indicated Sunday that the decision to bring Williams back is up to school president Rev. William P. Leahy, S.J.
"He's doing everything he needs to do and he's just fulfilling his end," Skinner told The Globe of Williams. "It's just a wait-and-see attitude with us to see if he finishes out and does what we ask him to do. If he does, then we can sit down and talk about it and, hopefully, have the type of outcome everybody's looking for."
