NMSU to host men's, women's tournaments
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico State will play host to the 2007 and 2008 Western Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments, the league announced Friday.
The tournaments were awarded after a joint bid by NMSU and the Las Cruces Convention and Visitors Bureau.
All games will be played at New Mexico State's 13,071-seat Pan American Center, which is undergoing a $23 million renovation that will be completed next November.
"New Mexico State's presentation was very impressive," WAC commissioner Karl Benson said.
New Mexico State is in its first season with the Western Athletic Conference.
"The renovations to the arena, along with the recreation opportunities in the area for the fans, will make these tournaments a first-class event," Benson said.
