Raivio expected return from bruised back to face UVa
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Point guard Derek Raivio will likely play on Saturday when Gonzaga (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today; No. 10 AP) hosts Virginia.
Raivio missed most of the loss to Washington after badly bruising his back when he fell while driving to the basket.
He sat out the next two games, when Gonzaga beat Washington State and Oklahoma State.
"I think I'm ready right now,'' Raivio said Tuesday.
Coach Mark Few agreed, although he was not sure Raivio would be 100 percent against the Cavaliers.
"I look for him to get some action,'' Few said.
Virginia is 3-3 under first-year coach Dave Leitao and is also battling injury problems.
With starting guard Erroll Knight sidelined all of the season so far with a knee injury, Gonzaga (6-2) has relied on Pierre Marie Altidor-Cespedes and freshman Jeremy Pargo to handle many of the guard duties.
Raivio, an All-West Coast Conference selection last season, is one of Gonzaga's main scoring threats.
