INDIANAPOLIS -- Greg Oden, a 7-foot prep star who has committed to attending Ohio State, was honored Tuesday as the Gatorade National Boys Basketball player for the second straight year, joining LeBron James as the only players to be so honored.

Oden led undefeated Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis to its third state title last month. He averaged 22 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 74 percent this season.

"This is one of my greatest moments," Oden said Tuesday. "I'm very happy to win this award, and I'm very grateful."

The award, given in a partnership with Scholastic's Coach & Athletic Director Magazine, is based on athletic performance, academic achievement and personal character. Oden is an honor student, with a 3.6 grade-point average. Last month, he was named the Naismith high school player of the year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

James received the award in 2002 and 2003.
