Kentucky junior forward Rekalin Sims will transfer, the school announced Tuesday.

Sims played just one season for the Wildcats after transferring in from Salt Lake City Community College. He began the season as the starter for Kentucky at power forward but saw his playing time all but disappear in Southeastern Conference play. Sims finished the season averaging 4.4 points per game in 13.2 minutes of playing time.

The (Louisville) Courier-Journal published a story on its Web site Monday afternoon saying that Sims told coach Tubby Smith he wanted to transfer.

"I told him to just wait and see what happens," Smith told the newspaper. "He's only got one year left."

Sims has not attended offseason workouts, individual practice sessions or other team functions.

Sims is the third Wildcat to depart prematurely after a disappointing, 13-loss season. Sophomore starting point guard Rajon Rondo declared for the NBA draft and announced his intention to sign with an agent, and freshman backup guard Adam Williams previously announced he would transfer after playing very little all season.

Senior writer Pat Forde contributed to this report.
