COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Reserve guard Sylvester Mayes has left the Ohio State men's basketball team.

Mayes played in 20 games as a junior last season and started two for the Buckeyes, who went 26-6 and won the Big Ten regular-season title. He averaged 14.7 minutes and 4.2 rebounds a game before his time dwindled down the stretch.

That was his only season with the Buckeyes after transferring from Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native has withdrawn from classes at Ohio State. He didn't disclose what his plans were.
