Pearson dismissed from team for violating policy
MURRAY, Ky. -- Trey Pearson was dismissed from the Murray State basketball team after violating university and team policy, the school said Tuesday.
"Trey has been given a number of chances in the past few years," coach Billy Kennedy said in a statement. "I'm disappointed this decision had to be made."
Pearson, a 6-foot-2, 182-pound guard, averaged 10 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season for the Racers, the Ohio Valley Conference champions who lost to North Carolina 69-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The school also announced that Mike McCoy and Marqis Wright were ruled ineligible to participate by the NCAA and were dismissed from the team.
The upcoming season will be Kennedy's first at the Murray State helm. An assistant at Miami, he was hired last month to succeed Mick Cronin, who took the Cincinnati head coaching job after three years at Murray.
