UCLA center Mata has knee surgery, out 4-5 weeks
LOS ANGELES -- UCLA junior center Lorenzo Mata is expected to be out four to five weeks following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee for the second time since June.
Mata's medial meniscus was intact, but team physician Gerald Finerman removed cartilage fragments from his knee during Thursday's operation. In June, Mata had a small tear of the medial meniscus repaired.
"He is a very important part of our team and we will take a conservative approach in bringing him back," UCLA coach Ben Howland said. "Once we get him back, we want him back for good."
