Officials discuss if Fargodome can host basketball
FARGO, N.D. -- Fargodome officials are studying whether the arena could host North Dakota State University basketball games, but NDSU officials say the dome's executive committee needs to move fast.
NDSU vice president Keith Bjerke said the school wants to finalize plans by year's end to remodel the Bison Sports Arena on campus.
"So if the dome wants to make a proposal to host NDSU basketball, they better do it soon," he said.
NDSU pays $120,000 annually to use the dome, mainly for football games and practices, graduation and the USA Wrestling Tournament. The five-year lease agreement expires in June.
If Bison basketball becomes a viable option for the dome, "then that needs to be figured into the lease, as well," said Rob Sobolik, the dome's general manager.
He said subcommittees will study whether it would make financial sense to host Bison basketball games, and whether it would fit into the dome's schedule.
NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor said he also is talking to representatives of the Urban Plains by Brandt development in southwest Fargo, after they approached him about the possibility of Bison basketball in an arena there.
