UNC forward Graves to sit out freshman year
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Forward William Graves, who was expected to provide depth on the wing for North Carolina, will sit out his freshman season.
"After talking to the young man and his family, we all agreed this was in both William's and the program's best interests," Tar Heel coach Roy Williams said Tuesday. "He will continue to practice, but won't play this year. I don't know anyone who won't be better in his fifth year of college than his first."
In June, Williams said he didn't plan to redshirt any freshmen.
The 6-foot-6 Graves will have four seasons of athletic eligibility remaining.
Graves led Greensboro Dudley to a second straight state championship this year and was named The Associated Press prep player of the year for North Carolina.
