Senior center Keith Butler, who was suspended by DePaul for an unspecified violation of team rules in June, has been reinstated, the university said.
Butler, a 7-foot-1, 255-pound transfer from Temple who sat out last season, complied with disciplinary measures set forth when he was suspended, coach Jerry Wainright said in an announcement on the school's athletics Web site.
Wainright told the Chicago Sun-Times that Butler remained enrolled at DePaul and worked out on his own while he was suspended.
"He was always eligible [under NCAA standards]," Wainwright told the Sun-Times. "He's met all the terms, and I think he understands the gravity of his mistake and appreciates that the university is giving him a second chance. But he's in a zero-tolerance situation for the rest of the season."
The Blue Demons (2-4) host No. 5 Kansas on Saturday, and Butler, who resumed practicing with the team Monday, might play.
