Syracuse shorthanded as Jones leaves school

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse freshman Mike Jones has left the
Orange basketball program because of homesickness.

Jones, a forward from Hopkins, S.C., said he wanted to play
closer to home, coach Jim Boeheim said Wednesday.

Jones injured his right hip in Syracuse's loss to Oklahoma State
on Dec. 5, and averaged only 6.5 minutes of playing time. His
departure leaves Syracuse with nine scholarship players and seven
healthy players for Thursday night's game against No. 10 Pitt.
