Basketball, football coaches eye extentions
MONROE, La. -- Louisiana-Monroe men's basketball coach Orlando Early has agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension, the school announced Wednesday.
Early is in his second season and has Louisiana-Monroe (16-10, 10-4 Sun Belt) in contention for the conference's West Division championship.
The extension does not take effect until it has been approved by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, which next meets on Feb. 22.
Also before the board will be a three-year extension for Louisiana-Monroe football coach Charlie Weatherbie, who agreed to his new contract last August.
Weatherbie, who is entering his fifth season with ULM, has earned a Sun Belt Conference championship and had 30 players receive all-Sun Belt honors.
Both coaches will have incentive packages tied to the success of their teams as part of their contract.
"We feel very good about the leadership and direction of both programs," athletic director Bobby Staub said.
