Wyoming reportedly interviews coaching candidates
Wyoming interviewed four candidates to replace Steve McClain as head men's basketball coach, multiple sources told ESPN.com.
Sam Houston State coach Bob Marlin, Fresno State assistant Heath Schroyer, Texas A&M assistant Jeremy Cox and Nebraska assistant Phil Mathews were reportedly interviewed on Tuesday in Denver.
Schroyer was once an assistant at Wyoming and BYU and knows the Mountain West Conference well. Mathews was the former San Francisco head coach.
McClain was fired after coaching the Cowboys to a 7-9 finish in the Mountain West Conference, 17-15 overall. McClain had been a successful coach at Wyoming, leading the Cowboys to the 2002 NCAA Tournament second round after upsetting Gonzaga in the first round. He entered the season with a 140-100 record with the Pokes in eight previous seasons. He was thought to be out last year but went to the MWC tournament title game before losing to San Diego State and was given another season.
The Cowboys are one of four Mountain West Conference schools looking for a head coach.
