TULSA, Okla. -- Oral Roberts confirmed Wednesday that it
will play Oklahoma State in the All-College Classic this December,
pitting two of Eddie Sutton's sons against each other.
The Dec. 20 game on a neutral court in Oklahoma City will be the
first time Scott Sutton of Oral Roberts and Sean Sutton of Oklahoma
State will coach against one another.
"Personally, I don't like playing this game," Scott Sutton
said. "I never like playing close friends or relatives. But this
is a great opportunity for our program and our school to once again
be featured on national television against a quality opponent. I
owe it to the team and the program to play a game like this."
Scott Sutton is the youngest son of Eddie Sutton, who won 798
games during his 36-year career at Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky
and Oklahoma State. His older brother, Sean, took over as Oklahoma
State's head coach after their father retired in May 2006.
The Golden Eagles pulled off one of college basketball's biggest
upsets last season by beating third-ranked Kansas on its home
court. In other featured games on Oral Roberts' schedule this
season, the Golden Eagles will play at Arkansas on Dec. 1, at Texas
on Dec. 18 and host crosstown rival Tulsa on Nov. 27.
The defending Mid-Continent Conference champions will also play
in the NIT Season Tip-Off in November.
"This is the most challenging schedule we've faced in my 13
years associated with the program," Scott Sutton said. "I think I
say something like that every year, but it's been true every year,
too. And this year it's a really tough schedule."
The Golden Eagles' other nonconference opponents include
Louisiana-Lafayette, which will come to Tulsa on Nov. 20, and Utah
State, which will host Oral Roberts on Dec. 29. Opponents for the
NIT tournament haven't been announced yet.
Oral Roberts will open conference play in the newly renamed
Summit League against the league's two newcomers, facing North
Dakota State on Dec. 6 and South Dakota State on Dec. 8.
The team's season opener is Nov. 9 against Southwestern Oklahoma
State. Exhibition games against Rogers State and Upper Iowa are
also on the schedule.
Oral Roberts went 23-11 last season and made its second trip to
the NCAA tournament in the past three years. The team loses top
scorers Caleb Green and Ken Tutt.
