Molinari, Simmons expected to join Ball St. staff
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Jim Molinari, the interim coach at Minnesota last season, and former Lehigh assistant Bob Simmons are expected to join new basketball coach Billy Taylor's staff at Ball State.
Taylor, the former coach at Lehigh, was hired two weeks ago, a month after Ronny Thompson resigned.
Athletic Director Tom Collins told The Star Press that Simmons would follow his former boss to Ball State and that the paperwork for Molinari had not been completed. Sports information spokesman Chris Taylor told The Associated Press on Thursday that no official announcement had been made on either hire.
The hiring of Molinari and Simmons would leave one assistant coaching position to fill.
Simmons was the head coach at Delaware Valley College for two seasons before going to Lehigh the past five years. Molinari, a former head coach at Northern Illinois and Bradley, spent the past three years at Minnesota. He was named interim coach of the Gophers after Dan Monson resigned seven games into the season last year.
