Preliminary report indicates enlarged heart in Ohio-Chillicothe player
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- The Ohio University-Chillicothe men's basketball player who died after collapsing during practice had an enlarged heart.
Jonathan Davis, a 20-year-old sophomore from Hampton, Va., fell to the floor Monday and was pronounced dead at Adena Regional Medical Center.
The finding of an enlarged heart came in a coroner's preliminary ruling. Dr. John Gabis said Wednesday that autopsy results will be available in about two weeks.
A memorial service was scheduled for Friday at the school, about 45 miles south of Columbus. The university had suspended men's and women's sports events and practices but will resume play beginning Saturday.
"Jonathan loved basketball and his teammates," men's coach Eric Snyder said in the Chillicothe Gazette. "The rest of the season will be dedicated to his memory, and we are committed to honoring him each time we take the floor.
"In our basketball programs, we consider each other family, and this is a time to come together even more. For Jonathan's teammates, this is an important part of the healing process."
