LOS ANGELES -- Rodney Tention resigned as Loyola Marymount basketball coach Wednesday after three losing seasons.

The Lions finished 5-26 overall and eighth in the West Coast Conference with a 2-12 record this season.

Tention had a 30-61 record in his three seasons. The Lions went 12-18 his first season, finished second in the WCC at 8-6 and reached the conference tournament title game for the first time since 1989. It was their first winning league record since 1995-96.

Tention had a 13-19 record last season. Prior to arriving at LMU, Tention spent eight seasons as an assistant to Arizona coach Lute Olson.

Tention was 18-60 in three seasons as head coach at the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, Calif. Tention's other assistant jobs were at South Florida and the College of Notre Dame.

Athletics director William Husak said the search for a new coach would begin immediately.
