Devendorf expected to return for Syracuse
Devendorf was suspended beginning with last Saturday's 72-65 win at Memphis (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) and also missed an 82-71 win over Coppin State on Monday.
The school's appeals board ruled last Friday that Devendorf could petition to be readmitted if he completed the community service.
A decision by a judicial hearing board initially recommended suspending Devendorf, a 6-foot-4 junior, for at least the remainder of the academic year for allegedly hitting a female student in the jaw with the heel of his hand during an off-campus altercation Nov. 1.
But according to Pete Moore, the director of athletic communications at Syracuse, the University Appeals Board's findings determined it was a verbal dispute and "basically a violation of the student code of conduct."
The female student's lawyer has maintained his client never said Devendorf hit her and that her statement to police was misconstrued in their report on the incident.
