Beilein sticks by decision
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach John Beilein stuck by his decision to bench Manny Harris in an overtime loss at Iowa but refused to elaborate on his reason for sitting the star guard.
Beilein told reporters Monday that they would have to come to all of his practices to understand his reasoning. Michigan lost to the Hawkeyes 70-60 on Sunday after getting outscored 14-4 in overtime -- with Harris sitting on the bench.
Harris was forced to toss up a long 3-pointer after Michigan botched its final possession in regulation. After the game, Beilein said Harris, who shot 3-of-13 from the field, didn't seem fresh after playing 38 minutes.
If the Wolverines (17-11, 7-8 Big Ten) fail to earn an NCAA tournament bid in two weeks for the first time since 1998, Beilein's choice to sit his star player during the loss will be further scrutinized.
