EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State coach Tom Izzo is not satisfied with the leadership on his team and he benched guard Kalin Lucas at Tuesday's practice.
Izzo told Lucas he should spend the time thinking about his leadership role. Izzo wants Lucas to take more responsibility for leading the No. 11 Spartans (9-3).
Izzo says Lucas is not suspended. But it isn't yet known if the 2008-2009 Big Ten Player of the Year will be in the lineup Wednesday against Texas-Arlington.
Izzo says his concerns with Lucas do not involve academics or legal issues.
Lucas is averaging 15.7 points per game this season.
