Rams get competitive boost
NEW YORK -- Fordham University's Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a "significant" increase in the budget for the men's basketball program.
The additional funds will move the program from the lower third of the Atlantic 10 Conference to the upper third, the school said Wednesday.
Since 1991-92, Fordham has had just one season with a record of better than .500. It joined the Atlantic 10 in 1995, and since then Fordham has an overall record of 134-287, including a 2-21 mark this season.
Dereck Whittenburg was fired as coach on Dec. 3, five games into his seventh season with a record of 69-112.
Fordham is conducting a national search for Whittenburg's replacement, and interim coach Jared Grasso will remain a candidate. The school said the position will be filled by April.
