Siena is finalizing a contract with assistant Mitch Buonaguro to replace coach Fran McCaffery, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The source said there isn't expected to be a holdup and that the deal is "99 percent done." An announcement could come as early as Thursday.
McCaffery, who left for Iowa, and his staff led the Saints to three straight NCAA tournaments. They won first-round games over Vanderbilt and Ohio State prior to losing to Purdue in this season's first round.
Buonaguro, 56, was head coach at Fairfield from 1985-91.
The Albany Times Union reported earlier Wednesday night, through a source, that a deal was close to being done.
