Mids to keep an eye on this season
ESPN.com experts note some of the mid-majors to watch this season.
Who has the best chance of become this season's Wisconsin-Milwaukee? Our experts provide three mid-majors to watch:
1. Western Kentucky
2. Old Dominion
1. Old Dominion
Blaine Taylor is as underrated a coach as there is in the country, and he has an excellent nucleus back from last year's 28-win team. Alex Loughton, a 6-9 forward, is not the inside player fellow Aussie Andrew Bogut was, but he has the same type of inside-out versatility and is one of the NCAA's best playmakers from the forward position. Keep your eye on 6-6 junior Arnaud Dahi, who is the kind of athlete who can help the Monarchs advance in this year's NCAA Tournament.
3. Cal State Fullerton
1. Cal State Fullerton
Bobby Brown might have the name of a has-been music star, but in the Big West, he is the player to watch. This team won 13 of its 17 games, including going 2-1 on the road in the postseason NIT. If Brown can get Jermaine Harper and Jamaal Brown involved (Brown is a scorer who needs a bit better pure point guard skill), there is no telling whom they might surprise in the big tourney this year.
2. Oral Roberts
1. Northern Iowa
UNI got into the NCAAs despite being tied for third in the MVC last season. The Panthers are going for three straight bids behind Erik Crawford and Ben Jacobson. The Valley is one of the deepest and most competitive leagues in the country. So, even if UNI doesn't win the league, expect the Panthers to get a bid and possibly win a game.
2. Old Dominion
