SPOKANE, Washington (Ticker) -- Fifth-ranked Gonzaga begins its
final homestand at The Kennel on Thursday when it hosts San
Diego in a West Coast Conference matchup.
Gonzaga (23-2, 12-0 WCC) already has proven itself against its
conference brethren, winning every game by double digits. The
Bulldogs are bidding to go unbeaten in its WCC slate for the
first time.The team's 16-game winning streak is a school record and third
in the country behind Saint Joseph's (25) and Stanford (23).
The Hawks and Cardinal are the only teams to defeat the
Bulldogs.Gonazga is playing is final two games at The Kennel as it will
move into a bigger facility next season.Ronny Turiaf leads Gonzaga with a 15.4 scoring average and
frontcourt partner Cory Violette is averaging 13.7 points. Point
guard Blake Stepp is averaging 14.4 points and 6.9 assists as
the Bulldogs' top perimeter player.Gonzaga has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with San Diego,
including an 85-73 triumph on January 29. Cory Violette and
freshman Adam Morrison each scored 20 points to lead the
Bulldogs. Stepp chipped in 11 points, nine assists and six
rebounds.San Diego (4-23, 1-11) has had a dismal season after capturing
last season's WCC title with a victory over Gonzaga in the
championship game. The Toreros, who lost WCC Player of the Year
Jason Keep, have lost 15 of their last 16 games.The Toreros are 0-13 on the road and only two of their losses
have been by less than double digits.
