HONOLULU (Ticker) -- Hawaii hosts a National Invitation
Tournament game for the first time in six years on Monday when
it faces Nebraska in a second-round matchup at the Stan Sheriff
Center.
The Rainbow Warriors have not played an NIT game at home since
1998, when it hosts the first three rounds. It is 5-1 at home
in the tournament, including 2-0 in second-round games.
Hawaii (18-12) snapped a three-game losing streak with an 85-75
victory at Utah State in the first round on Wednesday. Michael
Kuebler scored 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting as the Rainbow
Warriors defeated a ranked for on the road for the first time in
team history.
Nebraska (20-11) improved to 14-1 all time in the NIT with a
78-70 win over Niagara in the first round on Friday.
John Turek
and
Nate Johnson each scored 17 points for the Cornhuskers, who
pulled away with 17-of-21 free throws in the second half.
Hawaii has a 4-2 edge in the all-time series with Nebraska and
won the previous meeting between the schools on December 29,
1997.
Nebraska or Hawaii will advance to face the winner of Monday's
second-round game between Michigan and Oklahoma.
