LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Texas A&M is off to its best start in 85 years. However, second-ranked Kansas awaits in the Big 12 Conference opener for the Aggies.
Texas A&M finished 19-0 in 1919-20. The Aggies have never started a season with more than 10 wins since then until now.First-year coach Billy Gillespe will now face Big 12 opponents, who were 16-0 against the Aggies last season. In its first road game of the seaon, Texas A&M came away with a nail-biting 62-60 win over Penn State. Antoine Wright and Acie Law IV each scored 19 points in the victory. The Jayhawks will once again have to make due without oft-injured star Wayne Simien, who will be out for the next month while recovering from thumb surgery.Kansas will do well to not look past the Aggies in the proverbial "sandwich" game coming off a 70-68 overtime victory over ninth-ranked Georgia Tech on New Year's Day and with a trip to Lexington against No. 8 Kentucky coming up on Sunday.Keith Langford scored 18 against Georgia Tech while J.R. Giddens added 16. Aaron Miles collected 14 points and eight assists for Kansas, which finished third in the Big 12 last season. The Jawhawks have won all nine games against Texas A&M, with all but one of the victories coming by at least 12 points. In four meetings at Allen Fieldhouse, Kansas has won by an average of 34 points.
