CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (Ticker) -- After passing one of its biggest tests of the season, No. 1 Illinois hopes to avoid a letdown Saturday when it hosts Big Ten rival Minnesota.

Illinois ended the nation's longest home winning streak Tuesday, posting a 75-65 victory at Wisconsin, which had won its previous 38 games at the Kohl Center.

Luther Head scored 18 points and James Augustine added 14 as the Fighting Illini extended their conference winning streak to 16 games - one shy of their all-time record, set from 1914-16.

Illinois will have to avoid looking past Minnesota, which is tied for third in the Big Ten with a 4-2 record, especially with a showdown at No. 13 Michigan State next week.

Minnesota won for the 12th time in 14 games Wednesday with a 70-65 triumph over Indiana.

Jeff Hagan and leading scorer Vince Grier scored 15 points apiece for the Golden Gophers, who have lost all four of their matchups with ranked opponents this season.

Illinois has defeated Minnesota 10 straight times and has not lost to the Gophers at Assembly Hall since 1978.
