BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Virginia Tech will be looking
to establish itself as a major factor in the Atlantic Coast
Conference race when it hosts No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday.
One of two newcomers to the league this season, the Hokies shook
off an 0-2 start in league play with four wins in their last
five games and can tie the Demon Deacons in the standings at 6-3
with a triumph Saturday.
Virginia Tech rebounded from a rout at then-No. 2 Duke on Sunday
with a 73-63 win over Miami on Wednesday.
The visiting Hokies rallied from a six-point deficit midway
through the second half by making 13 of their final 16 shots.
They scored on 15 of their last 18 possessions and shot 61
percent in the second half.
Zabian Dowdell scored a career-high 23 points and
Carlos Dixon
added 17 as Virginia Tech improved to 2-2 in league play on the
road.
Virginia Tech is 1-3 against ranked teams this season and 9-2 at
home but will face a Wake Forest team coming off a big win at
home over Duke.
Chris Paul scored 23 points to lead the Demon Deacons past the
Blue Devils, 92-89, on Wednesday.
Eric Williams, who added 19
and a career-high 13 rebounds, became the 43rd player in school
history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
In the win, Wake Forest committed a season-low seven turnovers
and held a 44-37 rebounding advantage.
The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series, 24-20, and have won
the last five meetings between the schools.
