Arizona St (6-3) at No. 7 Washington (10-0) 10:00 pm EST
SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Arizona State has a tough task in its Pac-10
Conference opener Thursday when it attempts to break a series of
impressive streaks by No. 7 Washington.
The Huskies are 10-0 for the 12th time in school history and are
looking to build on the longest homecourt winning streak in the
nation, a 31-game run that began January 29, 2004.
Washington extended both runs and became the first team to win
800 games at its current arena with a 54-37 victory over Lehigh
on Friday.
Bobby Jones scored 12 points to become the 30th player in school
history to reach 1,000 for his career and
Jamaal Williams added
10.
Brandon Roy had six points, seven rebounds and three steals to
spearhead a defensive effort that limited the Mountain Hawks to
17-of-58 (29 percent) from the floor. Roy is 29 points shy of
joining Jones in the 1,000-point club.
The Sun Devils, who have opened league play against the eventual
champions four of the past six seasons, are coming off a 72-55
victory over Northern Arizona on December 22. in the ASU Holiday
Tournament.
Bryson Krueger scored 18 points and
Kevin Kruger
added 14 as ASU recorded its sixth double-digit win of the
season.
The Sun Devils own a 33-25 series advantage but have lost the
last five meetings, including three last season. The Huskies
capped the sweep with a 95-90 overtime win in the Pac-10
Tournament.
