Unbeaten Pittsburgh faces toughest challenge at Louisville

No. 11 Pittsburgh (13-0) at No. 10 Louisville (13-2) 1:00 pm EST

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- No. 11 Pittsburgh can go a long way toward cementing its status among the nation's elites when it visits No. 10 Louisville on Sunday in a Big East Conference matchup.

Although they are off to the fourth-best start in school history and are among three remaining unbeaten teams, the Panthers have been afforded a favorable schedule that has some hesitating to provide them a lofty ranking.

Pittsburgh has played just two road games, one of which was against cross-town rival Duquesne, and has faced only one ranked opponent in Wisconsin, which suffered a 73-64 loss to the Panthers on December 31.

Coach Jamie Dixon's club carried its run into league play with wins over Notre Dame and DePaul. It survived a sluggish first half to post a 73-65 victory over the Blue Demons on Thursday.

Aaron Gray recorded his Big East-leading eighth double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Carl Krauser collected 19 points and six assists as the Panthers overcame a 13-point first-half deficit, their largest of the season.

Two victories shy of matching the school's third-best start, Pittsburgh begins a three-game road trip with Louisville, which split its first two Big East games before finishing its non-conference slate with Monday's 81-58 victory over UC Davis.

A day after turning 21, Brandon Jenkins scored a career-high 31 points on 11-of-13 shooting, including a personal-best 7-of-9 from the arc. David Padgett added 14 as the Cardinals rolled without leading scorer Taquan Dean, who sat with a sprained ankle.

Dean has been practicing since Wednesday and is expected to be in the lineup.

The two schools have met just once, a Louisville win in the 1947-48 season.
