West Virginia tries to bounce back at St. John's

No. 13 West Virginia (14-4) at St Johns (10-7) 2:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Four days after having a lengthy winning streak end, No. 13 West Virginia returns to Big East Conference action Sunday when it visits St. John's.

On Wednesday, the Mountaineers (14-4, 5-0 Big East) had a national-best 12-game winning streak snapped at home by intrastate rival Marshall, 58-52.

Kevin Pittsnogle scored 20 points to pace West Virginia, which overcame 35 percent (18-of-52) shooting.

Mike Gansey added 10 points for the Mountaineers - the only team unbeaten in Big East play - but made just 3-of-12 shots.

St. John's (10-7, 3-3) had won three straight games before coming up short at top-ranked Connecticut on Wednesday, 66-50.

Eugene Lawrence collected 17 points and seven rebounds and Daryl Hill added 13 points for the Red Storm, who trailed by just three points midway through the second half before the Huskies pulled away.

West Virginia has won the last three in the series.
