Surging Eagles in search of first win against Virginia

No. 13 Boston College (21-5) at Virginia (13-10) 7:00 pm EST

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- A first for Boston College will result in a record for Eagles coach Al Skinner.

Needing one victory to become the school's all-time winningest coach, Skinner leads No. 13 Boston College into Virginia for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

The Eagles (21-5, 8-4 ACC) have never beaten the Cavaliers in three tries and the teams have not met since Virginia posted a 95-92 victory in the 1983 West Regional semifinal. In that meeting, current Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle led all scorers with 22 points for Virginia. This time, a pair of Boston College forwards figure to have a key role in the outcome.

Senior Craig Smith and junior Jared Dudley each have scored 434 points this season and lead the Eagles in scoring at 16.7 per game. In their last outing, Dudley scored 16 points and Smith added 15 in a 65-54 victory over Miami on Thursday. The victory was Boston College's fifth straight and 10th in 11 games. Its only loss in that span is an 83-81 setback to No. 1 Duke.

If Smith and Dudley play to form, Skinner will surpass Jim O'Brien as the program's wins leader. Currently the coaches are tied with 168 victories.

Virginia (13-10, 6-6) is coming off a 76-62 loss at Florida State on Saturday.

The Cavaliers have just one senior in their top nine players and start three sophomores and two juniors. Sophomore guard Sean Singletary averages 18.1 points and junior backcourt partner J.R. Reynolds scores 15.7 per game.
