Ball St (2-3) at No. 16 Georgetown (3-1) 7:30 pm EST
WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Former Georgetown coach John Thompson may
be the most uncomfortable spectator at Monday's battle between
the Hoyas and Ball State.
A Hall of Famer who led Georgetown to the 1984 NCAA title,
Thompson will be forced to divide his loyalty when his son,
John, guides the 16th-ranked Hoyas against the Cardinals, who
are coached by his younger son, Ronny.
The Thompsons are facing each other as head coaches for the
first time and are one of only two coaching brothers in Division
I. The other pair is James Jones of Yale and Joe Jones of
Columbia.
After opening with two victories, Georgetown suffered a 13-point
loss to Old Dominion last Sunday before rebounding with
Wednesday's 73-60 victory over Fairfield.
Freshman DaJaun Summers scored a career-high 17 points and
Jessie Sapp added 14 and
Roy Hibbert tied a career high with six
blocked shots for the Hoyas, who shot 56 percent (24-of-43)
from the floor.
Ronny Thompson guided Ball State to wins in his first two games
before the Cardinals dropped their last three, including two at
the Las Vegas Invitational.
Skip Mills scored 17 points,
Jalon Perryman added 13 and Micah
Rollin 12 for Ball State in Saturday's 76-66 defeat to Western
Kentucky. The Cardinals are shooting 37 percent (108-for-287)
this season.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
