LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) -- Jerry Johnson scored 16 points --
including three 3-pointers -- to lead Rider to a season-opening
69-53 victory over Brown Friday night.
Johnson was also five-for-six from the free-throw line and had
six assists.Rider center Steve Castleberry went five-for-nine from the field
and six-for-six from the line to tally 16 points.Brown freshman Sam Manhanga led all scoring with 19 points.
Manhanga also pulled down seven rebounds.Robert Taylor also hit three 3-pointers for the Broncs.Rider trailed the Bears (0-2) 12-6 in the first quarter but went
on a 12-0 run and never lost the lead.Brown went on 13-0 run to cut the lead to 59-51 with 4:08
remaining in the game but did not manage to narrow the gap further.On defense, Rider held preseason Ivy League Player of the Year
Jason Forte to seven points.Rider is 7-0 in home openers under coach Don Harnum.
