LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) -- Jerry Johnson scored 16 points --
including three 3-pointers -- to lead Rider to a season-opening
69-53 victory over Brown Friday night.
Johnson was also five-for-six from the free-throw line and had
Rider center Steve Castleberry went five-for-nine from the field
and six-for-six from the line to tally 16 points.
Brown freshman Sam Manhanga led all scoring with 19 points.
Manhanga also pulled down seven rebounds.
Robert Taylor also hit three 3-pointers for the Broncs.
Rider trailed the Bears (0-2) 12-6 in the first quarter but went
on a 12-0 run and never lost the lead.
Brown went on 13-0 run to cut the lead to 59-51 with 4:08
remaining in the game but did not manage to narrow the gap further.
On defense, Rider held preseason Ivy League Player of the Year
Jason Forte to seven points.
Rider is 7-0 in home openers under coach Don Harnum.
