    HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- Ray Barbosa came off the bench to score 28 points, including a layup with eight seconds left in the game to seal the victory, as James Madison beat Furman 78-72 Saturday.

    Barbosa scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers, in a seven-minute span to give James Madison (1-0) its biggest lead of the game 34-17 with 3:24 remaining in the first half.

    Maleye Ndoye hit four free throws in the final minute of the first half for the Paladins (0-1) to cut the James Madison lead to 38-26 at halftime.

    In the second half, Dwayne Broyles made a 3-pointer to extend the Dukes' lead to 45-35 with 15:13 left.

    Furman's Ben Earle made a 3-pointer and Tony Carter hit two free throws to cut the Dukes' lead to 68-63 with 2:35 remaining in the game.

    Broyles scored 14 points and Chris Williams had 13 points and seven assists for the Dukes. Barbosa made four of five 3-point attempts.

    Ndoye led Furman with 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting. Carter scored 12 points and Robby Bostain added 11 points.
