The Broncos, who have won five straight, on Tuesday will face
the winner of the Arizona State-San Diego game played later Monday.
Western Michigan (6-1) went 14-2 midway through the first half
to get a 36-23 lead. The Broncos led 40-28 at halftime.
The Eagles (5-5) never got closer than three in the second half
-- when Torrell Martin hit a 20-footer with 33 seconds left -- in
losing their third game in a row.
Tyrone Walker led the Eagles with 24 points and a career-best 20
rebounds on 9 of 13 shooting, including two 3-pointers. He also had
Reed, who came into the game leading the nation in 3-point
shooting percentage (18 of 28), scored 13 of his points in the
first half despite missing seven of his first 10 shots. He finished
the afternoon 4 of 13 from the field but made 14 of 18 from the
free throw line. He made 1 of 3 from beyond the 3-point line.
Walker averaged 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Walker had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, Torrell
Martin added eight, including 2-for-3 on 3-pointers.
The Broncos took advantage of 20 Eagle turnovers, scoring 16
points off those mistakes.
Winthrop outrebounded Western Michigan 41-30 but made just 23 of
57 field goals.
