Longhorns hold off Huskies' late charge

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Emeka Okafor scored 22 points and Denham
Brown added 17 in Connecticut's 102-44 exhibition victory over the
Beltway Ballers on Thursday night.

It was the final preseason game for the top-ranked Huskies, who
open the regular season Monday night against Yale.

Freshman Josh Boone had 15 rebounds and nine blocks, including
three rejections during one possession early in the second half.

Freshman guard Marcus Williams had 15 assists, and Ben Gordon
finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Huskies were without highly touted recruit Charlie
Villanueva for the second straight exhibition game while the school
awaits a ruling from the NCAA on his eligibility.

The situation stems from Villanueva's workouts in front of NBA
scouts last summer while he considered entering the NBA draft. NCAA
rules state that the recruit or a family member or friend not
related to basketball must pay all expenses for such workouts.

Team officials say they hope to hear from the NCAA by Monday.
