DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Monty Scott scored 20 points and Warren Williams 16 -- both coming off the bench to hit career highs -- to lead Dayton to a 60-56 victory over Temple on Saturday.

On a day when the majority of starters for both teams had trouble finding the basket, Scott and Williams provided the difference for the Flyers (12-3, 2-0 Atlantic 10). Scott's two free throws with 9.3 seconds left gave Dayton some breathing room.

David Hawkins scored 26 points for Temple (4-7, 0-2), which picked up just 17 points from its other four starters.

Dayton's top three scorers coming in -- Ramod Marshall, Sean Finn and Keith Waleskowski -- totaled 15 points.

Still, the Flyers never trailed. Hawkins, who hit 5 of 11 3-pointers, made his final basket behind the arc with 2:32 left to draw the Owls to 57-56.

After Waleskowski hit the first of two free throws a minute later, Mardy Collins and Hawkins missed jumpers on Temple's next two possessions.

Trailing 58-56 with 18 seconds left, Hawkins was fouled by Marshall but missed the front end of a bonus situation. Scott was then fouled by Collins and hit both free throws to close the scoring.

The Owls hit just 37 percent from the field.

Marshall, averaging 14 points a game, had nine assists to go with his eight points.
