DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Monty Scott scored 20 points and Warren
Williams 16 -- both coming off the bench to hit career highs -- to
lead Dayton to a 60-56 victory over Temple on Saturday.
On a day when the majority of starters for both teams had
trouble finding the basket, Scott and Williams provided the
difference for the Flyers (12-3, 2-0 Atlantic 10). Scott's two free
throws with 9.3 seconds left gave Dayton some breathing room.
David Hawkins scored 26 points for Temple (4-7, 0-2), which
picked up just 17 points from its other four starters.
Still, the Flyers never trailed. Hawkins, who hit 5 of 11
3-pointers, made his final basket behind the arc with 2:32 left to
draw the Owls to 57-56.
After Waleskowski hit the first of two free throws a minute
later, Mardy Collins and Hawkins missed jumpers on Temple's next
Trailing 58-56 with 18 seconds left, Hawkins was fouled by
Marshall but missed the front end of a bonus situation. Scott was
then fouled by Collins and hit both free throws to close the
The Owls hit just 37 percent from the field.
Marshall, averaging 14 points a game, had nine assists to go
with his eight points.
