LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nate Johnson hit a spinning layup with 23.6
seconds left, then made two free throws 11 seconds later to give
Nebraska a 68-65 come-from-behind win over Iowa State Saturday.
Nebraska (16-9, 6-8 Big 12) led by 10 points when
Brian Conklin
hit a 3-pointer to open the half.
But Iowa State (15-10, 6-8) battled back, cutting the lead to
three on
Jared Homan's free throws with 16:36 left and tying the
game at 56 on Will Blalocks 3-pointer with 5:29 to play.
Iowa State opened a three-point lead on
Curtis Stinson's driving
jumper in the lane with 40 seconds left. Nebraska's
Jake Muhleisen
made a pair of free throws to cut the Cyclone lead to 65-64 with 28
seconds left, then forced
Jake Sullivan into a turnover on the
ensuing inbounds pass.
Johnson then drove to the basket and scored.
Blalock missed a jumper on Iowa State's next possession. Stinson
rebounded but had his shot blocked by
John Turek.
Following Johnson's free throws with 12 seconds left, Sullivan
and
Jackson Vroman each missed 3-pointers that would have tied the
game.
Iowa State made nine of its first 12 shots, taking a 20-13 lead
on Stinson's jumper with 10:40 left in the first half. Nebraska
countered with a 19-3 run to take a 32-23 lead on Nate Johnson's
jumper.
Johnson had 22 points to lead Nebraska.
Jason Dourisseau had 11
and Muhleisen added 10.
Vroman led Iowa State with 22 points and Stinson had 10.
