Wofford 85, NC Greensboro 82

3/3/2004

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Eric Marshall had five of his 14
points in overtime and Wofford rallied to beat North Carolina
Greensboro 85-82 at the Southern Conference tournament on Wednesday
night.

A driving basket by Byron Fields with 1.1 seconds left in
regulation at 68-all. Then Marshall had a tip in to give the
Terriers (9-19) the lead for good. They were up 77-70 in the extra
period with less than 90 seconds to go. But the Spartans, who lost
in triple overtime to Elon this past Saturday, cut the margin to
84-82 on Ronnie Taylor's 3-pointer with 14.1 seconds left.

Marshall made one of two foul shots and North Carolina
Greensboro (11-17) had one more chance to tie. Taylor took a
23-foot shot with two defenders on him and it fell short with .05
seconds remaining.

Wofford made it past the first round for the third time in the
past five tournaments. The Terriers face Georgia Southern in
Thursday's quarterfinals.

North Carolina Greensboro looked like it had the game in hand
when Taylor's basket made it 68-63 with 1:17 left. However Howard
Wilkinson had his third 3-pointer -- and Wofford's eighth of the
second half after going 0-12 from behind the arc the first 20
minutes -- and Fields his game-tying drive.

Wilkerson finished with 18 points and Fields a career high 17.

Jay Joseph led the Spartans with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four
assists. He also had seven of the team's 22 turnovers.

Since winning the conference tournament and going to the NCAA
tournament in 2001, North Carolina Greensboro has gone 1-3 in the
postseason.
