Skrocki, defense lead Richmond to win

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Mike Skrocki scored 18 points and Richmond's defense limited Temple to only one field goal for 13{ minutes of the second half in taking a 64-49 win Thursday night in an Atlantic-10 quarterfinal.

Jermaine Bucknor added 17 points and Reggie Brown had 11 for the Spiders (20-11), who will meet Dayton in Friday night's second semifinal. The host Flyers beat Duquesne 69-56.

Conference scoring leader David Hawkins scored 20 points for the Owls (15-13), but he was harassed by multiple defenders all night and hit just 6 of 17 shots from the field.

Temple led 9-3 early and was on top 15-13 after Mardy Collins' slam dunk off an assist pass from Antywane Robinson at the 8:17 mark.

Richmond took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Skrocki with just under 7 minutes left in the half that started an 8-0 spurt. Gaston Moliva added two free throws and Bucknor hit a 3-pointer for a 21-17 lead.

The Spiders led 31-25 at the half and were on top 39-30 after Hawkins hit a 3-pointer at the 17:43 mark. But then they all but shut down the Temple attack.

The Owls managed just one field goal from there until Dion Dacons scored inside with 4:05 left, the Spiders building their lead to 55-37.

Richmond outscored the Owls 16-5 over that span, with six players scoring led by Brown's five points.

Temple hit just 34 percent of its shots from the field.

Skrocki hit five of the Spiders' 11 3-pointers.
