Bison roll in Coaches vs. Cancer consolation

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Kevin Bettencourt scored 18 points and John Griffin added 16 to lead Bucknell to a 67-54 win over Northern Colorado Friday in the first-round consolation game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

Griffin was perfect from the floor and 3-for-3 from the arc, and Bettencourt had five assists. Chris McNaughton added 14 points for the Bison (1-1).

The Bears (0-2) scored just 20 seconds into the game, then had trouble finding the net, just as they did losing 104-54 to No. 6 Syracuse in the first round Thursday.

Northern Colorado had only nine points in the first half, a Carrier Dome record. Princeton held the old record of 11 set in 1999.

Bucknell reeled off 20 straight points over 11 minutes before Erik Olsen scored for Northern Colorado. He finished with 10 for the game.

Sean Taibi, scoreless in the first half, had a team-high 16 points. He led the Bears on a 12-2 run early in the second half, and brought them within six with a 16-3 run that ended with 5:17 left in the game.

Then Bettencourt and Griffin worked the shot clock and hit six key free throws in the last three minutes.

Northern Colorado outscored Bucknell 45-37 in the second half.
